Growth Hormone Research Society
Research Fellowships

The Growth Hormone Research Society intends to award two Research Fellowships in 2008 to promote international exchange of scientific or clinical research expertise in any area of GH research. The value of the awards is USD $50,000 and is intended to provide personal salary support for the visit of young post-doctoral or clinical training fellows to pursue a research project for one year in a host Institution of their choice.

Eligibility:

Applicants.

The Fellowships are open to basic or clinical scientists from any country, and must be taken up in a host Institution different from that of the applicant. The awards are intended to support postdoctoral or clinical fellows in training and it is expected that the candidates will be less than 40 years of age at the time of application. The awards are to support the costs of travel, accommodation and subsistence during the tenure of the Fellowships.

Hosts.

It is expected that the host will be a clinical or basic scientist of significant research standing, and must state that he/she is able to mentor the Fellow at the host Institution and to provide the appropriate research guidance. The awards will not pay overhead or indirect costs. No research expenses are provided. The host is expected to provide facilities and funds for the conduct of research by the applicant. The host must be a member of GRS, but current members of the Award Committee are excluded as hosts.

Application Procedure:

Applicants should first contact their prospective host and agree on a proposed research project and starting date. The proposal may be in any area of basic or clinical science relevant to growth hormone, growth factors, or metabolism of interest to the GRS. The Fellowship Application Form should be downloaded from here (MSWord file). The completed form, together with current CVs of the applicant and mentor, and letters of support from the applicant's current mentor and proposed host, should be emailed to the GRS secretariat, C/O Dr. Robinson at the email address: grs@afdm.au.dk, to arrive not later than June 30th 2008.

Evaluation Procedure:

Each application will be ranked in confidence by the GRS Awards Committee, on the merit and appropriateness of the research proposal, the quality of the candidate, and the suitability of the host mentor and the host institution. The Award committee comprises a Pediatric Endocrinologist, an Adult Endocrinologist and two basic scientists. The successful candidates and hosts will be notified by the GRS Secretariat, and confirmation of acceptance of the offer and intended start date, will be requested at that time.
